Mysore, Mar. 15 (KCU&KK)- Commemorating the World Consumers Day, the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat along with the Food and Civil Supplies Department jointly conducted an awareness programme for the school children and public at Vartha Bhavan on Dhanvanthri Road here.

A.T. Manoli, President, District Consumer Grievances Redressal Forum, inaugurated the programme. H.K. Ramu, President, State Government Employees Association, welcomed. N. Ashwathamma, Secretary, Federation of Consumers Associations of Mysore, Thimmarayappa, Assistant Controller, Department of Metrology, Dr. S.P. Thirumala Rao, Redressal Forum Member, D.P. Devaraj and Manjunath, Assistant Directors, Department of Food and Civil Supplies and Jayadevaraj Urs, District Manager of the Department, were present.

Ashwathamma, addressing the gathering, said that the consumers should be aware of their rights and along with improving the standard of living, people should develop awareness on their rights.

"Education in that path is essential. A contest in this connection has been organised and about 20 schools have been identified to impart training on Consumer Rights through quiz programmes and essay writing," she said.

Indian Oil Corporation Manager V. Ashwathanarayan Babu presented tips regarding safety and service of LPG equipment.

Consumer awareness by MGP

Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) conducted a consumer awareness programme on detection of food adulteration today on Udayaravi Road in Kuvempunagar here.

MGP President S.K. Ananda Theertha, Convenor D.V. Dayananda Sagar, Secretary P.M. Bhat, Treasurer Sreemathi Hariprasad and members C.V. Nagaraj, Ranganath and Vasanth Mysoremath were present.

Simple methods to detect the adulteration of rice, dal, spices, oil, tea, semolina, turmeric and other items at home was demonstrated on the occasion.

Ananda Theertha released a booklet titled 'My Mysooru - we shall preserve it' published by MGP. The programme will end at 5 pm.
