4 Days Mysore Ooty Tour Itinerary from Bangalore
Mysore comes first, while you are fresh, then two nights in the hills give you an arrival afternoon in Ooty, a full day in Coonoor and Doddabetta, and a morning on the Pykara side before the drive home. An early pickup on Day 1 lets you see Srirangapatna and Mysore in one day.
Your driver picks you up early from home, hotel, airport or station in Bangalore and heads to Mysore. On the way, stop at Srirangapatna, the island town on the Kaveri, for the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple and Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace.
In Mysore, drive up Chamundi Hills to the Chamundeshwari Temple and its view over the city, then visit Mysore Zoo, the grand Mysore Palace, Jaganmohan Palace and St. Philomena’s Church.
End the day at KRS Brindavan Gardens, the terraced gardens beside the KRS Dam, for the evening musical fountain. Overnight in Mysore.
After breakfast, leave Mysore for Ooty. The road runs through Bandipur National Park and Mudumalai, where deer and sometimes elephants are seen from the road, before the climb into the Nilgiris.
Reach Ooty by early afternoon. Walk the terraced Government Botanical Garden and the Rose Garden, one of the largest in India, then end the day at Ooty Lake and the Thread Garden. Overnight in Ooty.
After breakfast, drive down through tea country to Coonoor. From Dolphin’s Nose you can see Catherine Falls on a clear day, and Lamb’s Rock looks out over the plains far below. Stop at a tea estate viewpoint and stroll through Sim’s Park, then take in Ketti Valley on the way back to Ooty.
In the afternoon, head up Doddabetta Peak, the highest point in the Nilgiris, then visit the Tea Museum, Tea Factory and Chocolate Factory for fresh Nilgiri tea and homemade chocolates. Overnight in Ooty.
Add-on: Ride the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage toy train, between Ooty and Coonoor. We fit it into the day when tickets are available.
After breakfast, check out and take the Pykara road. Walk among the tall trees of the Pine Forest, then cross the rolling grasslands of Wenlock Downs and the 6th and 9th Mile meadows, favourite locations for film shoots.
Continue to Pykara Waterfalls and take a boat out on Pykara Lake before starting the drive home through the forests. The drive back takes about 7–8 hours, reaching Bangalore by late evening or night, with drop at your home, hotel, airport or station.
