Mysore Airport serving the Heritage city of Mysore is also known as Mandakalli Airport. Airport is located 12 km from the Mysore city. The airstrip in Mysore was built in 1948, it was defunct from the mid-1980s. The newly upgraded airport was reopened for scheduled services on 1st October 2010. Only the smaller aircrafts (ATR) operate from the Mysore airport. Airport in Mysore at present has only one terminal which caters to the domestic needs and connects few major cities of India.
Chartered flights have been operating since the airport was recommissioned. Kingfisher Airlines operated daily flights to Mysore between October 2010 and November 2011. SpiceJet began flights connecting Mysore to Chennai, via Bangalore from 14 January 2013. In September 2017, TruJet commenced nonstop flights from Chennai to Mysore. The service was introduced as part of the central government's Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik plan, which aims to increase air connectivity between the smaller cities and towns of India.
