“Women by staying at home cannot claim equality but instead should develop a mentality to participate in the happenings in society,” opined C. Shikha, Managing Director, Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company (CESC).
She was speaking at a programme organised by the Women’s Wing of Insitution of Engineers as part of International Women’s Day at its premises on JLB Road here yesterday.
“Women in cities should involve in social activities of various organisations instead of just idling at home.
Women in rural areas too should shun inhibition and take part in village meetings. That would create an awareness among women on the facilities they are entitled to,” said Shikha.
Continuing, Shikha pointed out that women should establish their status in the family through action and not empirically. She added that women should empower themselves socially, economically and politically through good education.
Engineers Kavita Verma, P. Dhanalakshmi, Aruna Devi and Sujatha were felicitated on the occasion.
Institution of Engineers (IE) Mysore Local Centre Chairman Dr. T. Ananthapadmanabha, Engineer T.R. Satyanarayana, CESC Chief Engineer Shanthi and others were present.
