Mysore, Feb. 2 (KCU&KK)- Every employee in government or private sector does get a weekly off. However, the cops who toil day and night to maintain law and order, rain or shine, do not get the mandatory weekly off, it is learnt.

Now a proposal has been reportedly placed before the Home Department to compulsorily give weekly off to Police personnel or pay a holiday allowance of Rs. 100 in lieu of that in case the off cannot be given on certain situations.

Though the concept of weekly off did exist for cops too, they could never utilise that for pressure of work. It was understood that they were being paid Rs. 50 as compensation which will now be doubled if the proposal gets a nod from the govt. Senior Police officers are learnt to be making an earnest attempt to convince the Home Department about the necessity of weekly off for cops. If conceded, the cops would heave a sigh of relief on weekends.

IGP Jeevan Kumar Gaonkar feels that Policemen always work under stress. "A weekly off would surely rejuvenate their strained mind and body. They would perform better."

Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal observed that the Policemen work almost 365 days a year. "They can be given only staggered weekly off so that the system works continuously. Cops do deserve a good compensation if they work on weekly off day."

K.R. Hospital Psychiatrist Dr. Ravish too contends that a we-ekly off would pump more enthusiasm into their working style and their health condition would improve.
