Mysore, Mar. 6 (KMC)-In keeping with the revolutionary changes in Information Technology and Mass Communication, the Library Sciences too needs to be upgraded, said Mysore University International School of Information Management (ISIM) Executive Director Prof. Shalini R. Urs and added that web-based library services would be appropriate in the present day.

She was speaking after inaugurating the two-day national seminar on web-based library services held under the joint aegis of JSS Women's College and SDM Institute for Management Development at the College auditorium yesterday.

"A good library is like an ocean comprising literature, culture, knowledge and other spheres. They have been presented in a novel way through web-technology, " said Prof. Shalini Urs and added, "there was a time when books used to be kept locked in bookcases because they were precious. But now, using technology, literature can be made into any number of copies."

Former Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University Prof. K. Chidananda Gowda presided. Bangalore University's Lalitha Ashwath, Mallinatha Kambara, Dr. C.P. Ramashesha and Dr. K.V. Suresh were present.

Principal Prof. G.K. Chandrashekarappa welcomed and introduced the guests. Organising Secretary Prof. H.S. Umadevi gave an introductory talk.
