MLA and BJP spokesperson C.T. Ravi has admitted that the party had received a big jolt in the recent Assembly elections.
Addressing a press meet at the BJP office here this morning, C.T. Ravi, who is the party in-charge for Periyapatna Assembly election, said the Assembly results were a shock for the party.
“History has proved that no party which indulge in infighting and squabbles has no place in the political arena and BJP is no exception. What happened to the Congress in 1994, with S. Bangarappa making an exit, has now happened to the BJP, with the exit of B.S. Yeddyurappa,” he said.
Reminding that the BJP which had only 2 Lok Sabha MPs in the past, grew to head the NDA Government at the Centre in 1998, Ravi said this was possible due to the great efforts of senior leaders like Advani and Vajpayee. Likewise, the party will be re-organised here to make it stronger ahead of the forth-coming Lok Sabha polls, he said.
Attributing the Congress victory to the division of the vote bank of the BJP, Ravi said the Congress need not be upbeat about its victory. The BJP legislature party will be convened at Bangalore on May 14 or 15, where all the factors leading to the party’s debacle will be discussed and introspected.
Admitting that the exit of former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had damaged the party to a large extent, Ravi said Yeddyurappa rose to become the CM after entering the BJP as a worker and exited the party as a big leader.
“The party will correct the mistakes of the past and will look to a bright future,” he said and added that the party will fight the forthcoming Periyapatna election with all dignity and honour.
District President Siddaraju, leaders Srivatsa, Pradeep, Satish, Ramesh were present at the press meet.
