Adventure Sports and Water Sports, another attraction of Mysore Dasara festivities introduced by the Dasara Sport Sub-Committee, began at the Varuna lake near here this morning.
Mounted Police Company Commandant Mariba Shetty inaugurated the programme by performing Ganga Puja.
Hundreds of people passing by the main road near the lake eagerly witnessed the water sports events.
District In-Charge Minister S.A. Ramdas, Mayor Sandesh Swamy, Deputy Commissioner Harsha Gupta and Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal enjoyed rides on the water scooter, also known as jet-skiing.
The Water Sports, organised by General Thimaya National Adventure Sports Academy, comprises jet-skiing, motor boat ride, banana ride (riding on a banana-shaped air-filled float pulled by a motor-boat), etc.
The fare per person per ride on the water scooter is Rs. 200 per 20 minutes. The organisers said that the water scooter consumed 3 litres of petrol per hour. The charge for a banana ride is Rs. 100 and a ride on the motor boat, having a seating capacity of 6, is Rs. 30 per head.
Academy’s Administrative Officer Jitendra Singh, Dasara Sports Sub-Committee President K.J. Ramesh, Vice-Presidents Chandrashekhar and Akbar Pasha, Dy. Mayor Pushpalatha Jag-annath and others were present.
Chamundi Hill: Other activities like rock climbing, wall-climbing, rope grappling, crossing the ropeway, etc., were held at the foot of Chamundi Hill, as part of the Dasara Sports.
Horse riding contest will be held at 6.30 am on Oct. 10. Climbing on artificial wall will be held at Chamundi Vihar Indoor Stadium from Oct. 9 to 11.
The State level artificial wall climbing contest will he held on Oct. 12 and 13.
The Chamundi Hill step-climbing contest will be held at 6.30 am on Oct. 13 . The winners will be awarded cash prizes.
