Mysore, July 19 (KK&DM)- The scion of Mysore Royal family Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar informed here that he would start a Private University in city.

He was speaking as the chief guest at a function organised by Jayachamaraja Urs Education Trust for dedicating the new college building built at Sri Vanivilas Urs Girls School and College premises in memory of Maharani Lakshmammanni to mark the 91st Jayanthi of Sri Jayachamaraja Wadiyar, here yesterday.

The foundation stone for the University was laid at Vanivilas Girls School premises in 2008 and the University would start functioning in a few years, he said.

Wadiyar said the Vanivilas Urs Girls school will soon have CBSE and ICSE system. The introduction of CBSE and ICSE classes will be educationally beneficial to poor girls, he added.

The Trust, set up in 1911, has given prime importance for empowering women through its creativity. The Trust will continue its tradition of educating women, he explained and added that his University would be set up on the lines of Azim Premiji’s Private University.

Parakala Mutt Seer Sri Abhinava Vageesha Swamiji, who spoke after inaugurating the new building, said the Mysore Maharajas, since the beginning, gave much prominence to education, especially for educating women. Srikanta Datta Narasimharaja Wadiyar and Pramodadevi Wadiyar have continued this tradition, he added. A booklet on Jayachamaraja Wadiyar and Vanivilasa Sannidhana was released on the occasion.

Trust President Pramodadevi Wadiyar, Kamakshi Devi, Indrakshi Devi and Vishalakshi Devi, Trustee K.B. Ramachandra Urs and Senior Advocate M.A. Sampath Iyengar were present.
