Under the aegis of Kannada Kriya Samithi, an interaction on the topic “We are not opposed to Vivekananda Memorial. But against the proposal to build the memorial at NTM School, considered a heritage school,” was held at Nrupatunga Kannada School in Ramakrishna Nagar here this morning.

The speakers, who took part in the interaction, said that they were not opposed to the construction of the memorial but they were opposing the site earmarked at NTM School. They said they would welcome the memorial at any other location other than NTM school.

They said that as Ambedkdar Bhavan was also coming up near the NTM School on the busy Narayan Shastry Road, this memorial would create traffic hurdles besides other problems.

Stating that the vested interests were using Ramakrishna Ashram to usurp the NTM School site, they urged the Government to retain the NTM School.

They also warned the government of an intensive agitation, if it gives its nod for the construction of Vivekananda Memorial at the NTM School site.

The speakers who took part in the interaction included P. Mallesh, Prof. G.H. Nayak, Meera Nayak of Samatha Vedike, Prof. P.V. Nanjaraj Urs, Journalist Rajasekhar Koti, S.R. Sudarshan, Prof. Kikkeri Narayan and others.
