63 road accidents, 7 die, 65 injured

Mysore, Mar. 12 (DV)- The City Traffic Police who have registered 12,167 cases against traffic rule violators during February, have collected Rs. 13,70,300 as fine on the spot.

The Court has also imposed a fine of Rs. 3,93,300. In all, 185 cases of reckless driving, 491 of overspeed, 490 of drink and drive, 340 of not possessing driving licence, 127 for use of mobile while driving, 5,331 for not wearing helmet and 5,203 cases for other traffic rule violations have been registered.

In all, 8221 cases of violations of traffic rules have been registered during Feb. 2009 and a fine of Rs. 10,69,000 has been collected on the spot and Rs. 2,80,000 fine has been imposed by the Court.

Totally, 63 cases of road accidents have been reported during last February, in which 7 are dead and 65 persons injured. Out of them, 3 dead and 22 injured are pedestrians.

In the accident, 3 dead and 23 injured are bike riders. Out of the 3, 2 have died due to head injury caused by not wearing helmet; 13 are injured on their head. In 61 road accidents in Feb 2009, 11 have died and 54 injured.

The number of pedestrians who are dying in road accidents is on the increase. The pedestrians should, therefore, walk on the footpath and cross roads carefully only where specified. Two-wheeler riders should compulsorily wear helmets and follow traffic rules, City Police Commissioner Sunil Agarwal has requested the public.
