Not every person can become a politician, but once a person decides to enter politics, he/she has to be active round-the-clock to respond to the problems of the public and supporters. Politicians, who are always busy, get very little time to spend the time with the families and friends as they are always executing their duties to please the voters and gain their confidence. The recently concluded elections to Mysore City Corporation (MCC) witnessed some new faces being elected for the first time, while a few of the sitting Corporators were re-elected for the good work they had done in their respective constituencies. Be it former Mayors Ayub Khan (Congress), Sandesh Swamy (JD-S), H.N. Srikantaiah (Ind.) or Pushpalatha Chikkanna (Cong.), all of them got a thumping victory. But in case of Ayub Khan, he has set a record by winning the election with the highest margin — 3,600 votes against his nearest rival Riyazuddin (SDPI) who managed to secure only 643 votes. Even M.V. Ramprasad (BJP) and C. Madesh (JD-S) won with comfortable leads against their nearest rivals. This apart, both Ayub Khan and Sandesh Swamy set a record by completing a hattrick as they were elected three times consecutively; not to forget the achievements of K.T. Cheluvegowda (JD-S), who has been elected to the Council for the 4th time in a row and is a prime contender for the Mayor’s post.

The MCC polls also saw 23-year-old Tasneem, a housewife, who got elected from Congress ticket from Ward 40. She is the youngest person to be elected as a Corporator during the recently concluded election. Star of Mysore gives an insight into plans of the top six Corporators who have emerged victorious with highest margins.

“I thank the people for electing me for the second term. There is a lot more work to be done in the next five years. The vote margin would have been much more if some names were not deleted from the voters’ list. I am also an aspirant for the Mayor’s post. It depends on the party high command’s decision. In case I am given the responsibility, I will work hard to make the city much more beautiful”, said Madesh.
