In a tragic incident, three persons from city were drowned at different places yesterday when they tried to swim in KRS in Mandya and Ullal beach near Mangalore.

In the first incident, two youths Avinash alias Abhishek (20) and Somanna (32), both residents of T.K. Layout in city, who tried to swim in the backwaters of KRS reservoir in Meenakshipura village drowned in the afternoon.

It is reported that Somanna, an employee at University of Mysore, along with Avinash, a delivery boy at Manjunatha Gas Agency, accompanied by his friends Roopesh, Shivanna and Shivakumar had gone to KRS in a car. At about 5 pm, Somanna, Avinash and Shivakumar tried to take a swim in the backwaters. As all the three did not know swimming, they started drowning. Roopesh and Shivanna who rescued Shivakumar failed to rescue Somanna and Avinash.

Yelwal Police, who rushed to the spot on information, fished out the bodies of Somanna and Avinash with the help of divers and shifted Shivakumar who was in a serious condition to a private hospital. Yelwal Police have registered a case.

In another incident, an unidentified person among four persons from Mysore who had been to Someshwara Temple near Ullal beach in Mangalore on an excursion drowned when he tried to swim in the sea.

It is reported that a group of four persons in the age group of 20 to 25 years went to the beach after offering prayers at Someshwara Temple.

As the tides were strong, one lifeguard by name Ashok Someshwar advised the four not to venture into the sea. Even as the other three managed to escape, one among the four drowned. The three immediately reported the matter to Ashok who rushed to the spot only to see one among the four drowned.

Interestingly, even after Ashok advising the three to register a complaint at Ullal Police Station in this regard, the three are reported to have fled the scene without doing so. Later, lifeguard Ashok informed Ullal Police.
