Nearly 2,000 yoga students, many of them foreign nationals, participated in a mass Suryanamaskara organised by RSS in association with Swami Vivekananda’s 150th birth anniversary to mark Rathasapthami and the birth anniversary of the Monk in front of Amba Vilas Palace here this morning.

District In-Charge Minister S.A. Ramdas inaugurated the event at 6 am. A Surya Yajna was performed at Chandramouleshwara Temple in the Palace premises.

The yoga students paid obeisance to the Sun God with 108 suryanamaskars, each comprising 14 different postures requiring at least 15 minutes to perform. The event concluded by 8 am, with breaks for rest after every 25 steps.

The programme was aimed to bring awareness about the traditional Indian yoga practice and its multi-farious health benefits.

RSS Province Sangh Chalak M. Venkataram, Province Sampark Pramukh T.S. Venkatesh, Ramakrishna Ashram President Muktidananda Swamiji and others participated.

A book titled Sooryasthothra Shathanamavali Yoga Soothra (Artha-sahitha) was released.

Puja at the Palace

In keeping with the tradition, the idols of all temples in the Palace premises were placed in front of the Palace and special pujas offered to them on the occasion of Rathasapthami.

DC Dr. Ramegowda too offered puja at the Palace. As per the tradition, entry to the Palace is free today for the visitors.
