Schools reopening after summer vacation is a usual feature but to give it an innovative touch, Supreme Public School in Kanakadasanagar here organised a programme wherein students planted saplings named after dignitaries, litterateurs, newspapers and TV channels.

The special event organised at MUDA park opposite the school was inaugurated by MUDA Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath.

Students from LKG to 10th std. planted over 200 saplings of various fruits before entering the classes. The saplings were named after Mysooru Mithra, Prajavani, Kannada Prabha, Vijaya Karnataka, Udayavani, Andolana, Udaya TV, TV-9, Public TV, Kuvempu, D.R. Bendre, Shivaram Karanth, Masti Venkatesh Iyengar, V.K. Gokak, Chandrashekar Kambara, U.R. Ananthamurthy, Girish Karnad, cine actors and former Chief Ministers.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Betsurmath said the event was befitting the concept of green city and a good awareness campaign on environmental protection for students.

School Founder President M.L. Ravindraswamy, Secretary K.P. Manjula, Principal Jagadish and staff were present.
