To be developed on the lines of Delhi's Pragati Maidan Expo

Mysore, Apr. 10 (ACP&DM)- Karnataka Housing Board Chairman G.T. Devegowda launched the 39-day Summer Exhibition at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds in city yesterday.

Speaking on the occasion, GTD recalled the services of the late Jayadevaraj Urs, who was the pioneer of the Dasara exhibition.

Jayadevaraj Urs took a big step forward in protecting the city's environment by setting up Nehruloka, for which 2000 acres of land were reserved. But lack of interest by leaders dashed his hopes, he said. The summer expo has been organised for tourists who spend holidays along with their children, he added while wishing it a success.

Earlier, the Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman B.P. Manjunath, who delivered the keynote address, said that the exhibition will be developed on the lines of Delhi's Pragati Maidan exhibition. A blueprint has been prepared to take up several infrastructural works pertaining to the exhibition at a total cost of Rs. 155 crore, which also included the construction of a vehicle parking complex in 84 acres of land belonging to KEA.

The State Government has already released Rs. 5 crore for building a 'Tourist Soudha' at the exhibition entrance, he said.

Deputy Mayor Sharadamma presided. MLC Thontadarya garlanded the statue of Dr. Rajkumar on the exhibition premises.

Although the exhibition was launched yesterday, it was found that no shops other than a couple of cold drinks and ice cream stalls had come up and works on some of the shops were still going on.
