Mysore, Apr. 2 (KK&KMC)- A group of students, their parents and city BJP Yuva Morcha members staged a demonstration at Sadvidya Semi-Residential PU College in Vijayanagar yesterday as 58 students had failed in the first PU exams, results of which were declared yesterday.
The protestors gheraoed the college Principal Govindegowda, detaining him in his office chamber for about two hours.
Secretary Prof. K.V. Arkanath, who spoke to the protestors on behalf of the college management, assured the parents of conducting supplementary exams for the failed students and prepare them through special coaching classes. Later, the protestors withdrew their agitation.
Earlier, the protestors told Star of Mysore that 28 students in D section and 12 in E section had failed in Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
"Only the students who have scored above 90 per cent marks in SSLC are admitted to the PU College. How can they fail in the exams the next year?" questioned the parents and expressed doubts about the teaching ability of the college staff.
The parents further said that the college management intended to close down the 'D' and 'E' sections and retain only A, B and C sections and hence had deliberately got the students of D & E sections failed.
Dist. BJP Yuva Morcha President Arun Kumar Gowda, Raj Kumar, Shambhu Patel, Daripura Chandru, Ravi Lakshmipura, Devaraj and others were present.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of PU Board K. Chandramma said the quality of education imparted in the college will have to be questioned because they admit only students who scored above 90 per cent in SSLC. Moreover, it is the college that teaches them, conducts exams and declares results. "I have only attested my approval on the results list," Chandramma said.
