In the wake of recent incident of a foreigner being drugged by some miscreants in the name of holistic medicine, the City Police have decided to provide security to foreign tourists and others visiting city from across the country.
It may be recalled, recently a US mariner Wilson Richard Casey was drugged by some miscreants near St. Philomena’s Church after taking him to their shop in Mandi Mohalla. Since Richard had to return to the US he did not file a complaint but has decided to file a complaint through the US Embassy in this regard.
Speaking to SOM this morning, Police Commissioner K.L. Sudhir said that city Police will deploy special tourist Police at tourists spots to provide security to the visiting tourists. He said that the selected home guards and Police will be trained to provide security to the tourists, especially foreign tourists.
“Special tourist Police will be deployed at various tourist places like Mysore Palace, Zoo, Jagan Mohan Palace, Chamundi Hill and other locations on a regular basis. This apart, the security will be increased on Saturdays, Sundays and on general holidays at the tourist spots,” he added.
Sudhir also added that respective jurisdiction Police have been instructed to take immediate action on receiving information regarding any such untoward incident. “In recent days such incidents are being reported due to lack of information and management and tourists are facing a lot of problem which could affect the tourism industry in Mysore. In an effort to prevent such incidents special tourist Police are being deployed”, he said.
