Construction of 'Silk Bhavan' to begin soon
Mysore, July 10 (DM)- To mark the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Mysore Silk Weaving Factory, preparations are going on for the construction of 'Centenary Silk Bhavan.'
The proposed Silk Bhavan encompasses exhibition of products associated with the city's heritage, culture and art, a showroom, hall and theatre. The work on the building is expected to start in a fortnight.
Disclosing the above at the inaugural function of KSIC's showroom at Ittigegud here yesterday, KSIC Chairman and former MLA C.P. Yogeeshwar said the Bhavan would be built at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore in 30 guntas of land at Mysore Silk Factory premises.
Karnataka's silk sarees, Cauvery handicrafts, products of sandalwood, Karnataka Soaps and Detergents, Lidkar and Karnataka Coir Development Corporation will be exhibited and sold under one roof, he said.
A 20-minute documentary introducing the city's heritage, silk weaving, manufacture of products in government-owned industries etc., will be exhibited, he explained and added that films on heritage too would be screened in the Silk Bhavan.
