Mysore, Mar. 10 - The Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), Mysore, will be conducting a two-day seminar on ‘Futuristic Food Requirements of the Armed Forces-Stakeholders’ Meet’ from tomorrow at its premises, disclosed Dr. A.S. Bawa, Director of DFRL, at a press meet held at DFRL premises this morning.

The seminar will be inaugurated by Maj. Gen. B.P. Tiwari, Dy. Commandant, ASC Centre & College, Bangalore. Dr. W. Selvamurthy, Scientist & Chief Controller, R&D (Life Sciences), DRDO, New Delhi will preside and deliver the keynote address.

Dr. R.B. Srivastava, Director, Directorate of Life Sciences, DRDO, New Delhi, will inaugurate the exhibition and Amarjeet Singh, Factory Manager, Nestle India, Nanjangud, will be the guest of honour.

The seminar is aimed at bringing armed forces, scientists, technologists and Indian food industries to a common platform to identify the current food needs of the armed forces. It is also envisaged to discuss the challenges faced by the users in meeting their food requirements at different terrains and in the changing combat situations, he said.

Eminent speakers from armed services, industries and R&D side have been invited to present status summaries pertaining to their respective areas. A large number of participants from all the three services (army, navy and air force) as well as paramilitary forces will participate. Food industry giants such as MTR, Jain Agro Foods, ITC, etc are also taking part.

During the conference, an exhibition of various products, process, techniques and training opportunities available at DFRL for armed services as well as the industries to scale up operations through technology will be displayed, Dr. Bawa stated.
