Police resorted to mild lathi charge on Friday afternoon to disperse a mob of activists of SDPI and other organisations, who staged a protest against Traffic Police checking of helmetless two-wheeler riders at the Petrol Bunk Circle on Mahadevapura Road, which, they alleged was leading to accidents as riders meet with accidents while trying to escape.

It is reported that a bike rider who tried to escape helmetless drive was injured and a woman was also injured when she tried to escape the checking and rammed into an auto which resulted in the auto turning turtle when Traffic Police led by Kuvempunagar Traffic SI Jayakumar were checking two-wheeler riders for helmets.

The protesters alleged that despite repeated requests, the Traffic Police were indulging in the checking which was leading to many accidents and continued their protest despite several appeals by the Police which reportedly forced the cops to resort to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.
