Mysore, Oct. 1 (BRS&KK)- A unanimous decision was taken in the ordinary meeting of Zilla Panchayat here yesterday to declare Dasara holidays from Oct. 7 to Oct. 26 for all schools in Mysore district.
The resolution would be forwarded to the Commissioner, Department of Public Instruction through ZP Chief Executive Officer G. Satyavathi, further suggesting that Dasara holidays from Oct. 7 should be declared uniformly throughout the State.
The resolution on declaring Dasara holidays from Oct. 7 to Oct. 26 for all schools in Mysore district was tabled by Nalini Vijayaraje Urs, Chairperson, Sub-Committee on Health and Education.
The move by District In-Charge Minister S.A. Ramdas on postponing the Dasara holidays in order to conduct Shala Dasara was unscientific. As a result of that change, the school students will miss the opportunity to visit important tourist destinations, to view films during the Dasara Film Festival and to take part in various other programmes. The decision on Shala Dasara was unilateral and school children are not ready for it, she argued.
The half-yearly exams are in progress and by diverting the attention of students, their academic development will suffer, she said. Members C.T. Raja-nna, K. Marigowda, Basavaraju, Kunnegowda and others remarked that the change in the dates for Dasara holidays was not Minister's decision. It was one-sided and conducting Shala Dasara was not appropriate.
