Mysore, Oct. 18 (BRS&HT)- Noted tabla exponent Sheshagiri Hanagal was conferred the State Sangeetha Vidwan award by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa during the cultural programme held in the Mysore Palace on Saturday as part of the 400th Dasara.

In spite of being a victim of polio, the tabla expert has mastered the art of playing the percussion instrument and has also provided saath (accompaniment) to many leading vocalists. His achievement in this field is a model for the youth, opined Yeddyurappa, showering praises on the artiste.

The State Government has also planned to honour the State's medal winner in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Winners of Gold medals will be presented with a purse of ` 10 lakh, Silver medals with Rs 7 lakh and Bronze medals with Rs 5 lakh, he disclosed. All the medal winners of Karnataka will be invited within a week and the purse will be presented, he added.
