Mysore, June 6 (DV&MTY)- To mark the silver jubilee of Gramanthara Buddhijeevigala Balaga, K.R. Nagar taluk, poet-laureate Dr. Da. Ra. Bendre Memorial Sahityothsava was organised at Rajendra Kala Bhavan in the premises of JSS Hospital on Ramanuja Road in city today.

Litterateur Dr. D. Javaregowda, delivering the presidential address after being felicitated, said: "The mind gets soothed when people read books by Bendre and Kuvempu. The tensed mind and heavy heart get cleansed and refreshed when one reads Ramayana Darshanam by Kuvempu. Achievement is possible only when people get involved in literature, social service and education."

A book titled 'Bendre: Ondu Nenapu' was released by littereateur Dr. C.P. Krishnakumar and Dejagow released a monthly magazine 'Kannada Sahitya Loka' on the occasion.

More than 20 celebrities who made significant contribution in different fields were honoured on the occasion, including Mysore District Co-operative Union President H.V. Rajiv.

A mass eye donation programme was also organised to mark the occasion which was inaugurated by columnist Bannur K. Raja.

Litterateur Dr. Malali Vasanthkumar, senior litterateur Mangala Satyan, Social Worker D.N. Krishnamurthy, poetess Ratna Halappagowda, Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Maddikere Gopal, Karnataka Bhushana Award recipient Bherya Ramkumar were present.

Writer Dr. Latha Rajashekar inaugurated the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, she said Dr. Bendre was a unique litterateur and an all-time poet.

"Youth budding poets must study the ancient literature of Bendre and Kuvempu to become sensitive communicators," she advised and suggested that they should keenly observe the prevailing social setup and uphold humanitarian values.
