Mysore, Mar. 10 (KCU&KK)- Construction work to erect about 400 temporary sheds for Raitha Santhe on an area belonging to Karnataka Exhibition Authority (KEA) on M.G. Road at a cost of about Rs. 25 lakh would commence soon with guddali puja to be performed within a week.
Disclosing this at a press meet held here yesterday, KEA Chairman B.P. Manjunath said that the sheds would facilitate the farmers to sell their produce and would rightly be named as Yedd-yurappa Raitha Santhe. "The construction work would be entrusted to Nirmithi Kendra and would come up on an area of about 7.5 acres. No fees would be levied on the farmers to utilise the sheds. They would be free to sell their produce at the Santhe without the intervention of any middlemen or commission agents. To prevent traffic jams during the sale of vegetables in the mornings, a good parking lot would be created along with drinking water facility and toilets," he added.
"Farmers will get top priority to carry on business. However, merchants who have been utilising the space for a long period too would not be let down. A Selection Committee comprising the Tahasildar, Officers of APMC and Horticulture Dept. would be constituted to pick eligible farmers. RTCs of the beneficial farmers would also be scrutinised," said Manjunath.
Chandrashekar, CEO of KEA, was also present.
