Acting on a tip-off, the city Police headed by ACP (KR Sub Division) Prakash Gowda raided the Lakshimpuram Sports Club at Lakshmipuram here yesterday and arrested 152 people besides seizing Rs. 4.5 lakh in cash.

The Police, on receiving information, raided the Club at 5 pm along with 2 platoons of CAR and 6 Police Inspectors.

Yesterday being Sunday, a large number of people were present in the Club and were said to be allegedly involved in gambling. The presence of a large number of Police personnel at the Club also attracted a lot of passers-by who stood at the place eager to know about the raid.

It is said, majority of the Club members were city-based businessmen and officials. The Club has been running since many years in city.

The arrested persons were taken to CAR grounds where they were let out on bail after being warned.

The Police also recovered trophies of bison and deer horns and booked a criminal case in this regard.

Speaking to SOM, ACP Prakash Gowda said that the Club had no permission for gambling and the licence was given only to conduct sports activities. Though it is permitted to play Rummy, gambling on it is illegal.

“The raids were conducted only after getting information on gambling. Similar raids will be conducted at Clubs which are involved in gambling,” he added.
