Unlike other departments, teaching physical education is altogether a different game which requires toughness accompanied by common sense to administer first aid to sportsmen when they receive injuries during the competition, said Dr. M.Chandrakumar, Chairman, Dept. of Physical Education and Sports Science, University of Mysore, here yesterday.

He was speaking at the 7th Refresher programme on ‘Physical Education and Sports Science’ organised by the UGC Academic Council and the Department of Physical Education and Sports Science at the UGC Academic Staff College in Manasagangotri.

Dr. Chandrakumar also said that physical education teachers need to provide sufficient information to the students about the importance of well-being of their body and also about injuries caused while playing.

Prof. Lingaraj Gandhi, Director, UGC Academic Staff College, said that PE teachers should act as morale boosters for athletes who tend to become nervous during competitions and contribute for the development of skill, knowledge and attitude and enthuse the students to perform well.
