The historic Parashurama temple in Nanjangud town has been inundated following release of water from Kabini reservoir in H.D.Kote taluk and many devotees were seen offering poojas to the temple from a considerable distance.

With about 60,000 cusecs of water being released from Kabini reservoir, Kapila river is in spate after a gap of four years forcing authorities to evacuate people living in low-lying areas to safer places.

Holiday for school: Tahsildar Arul Kumar told Star Of Mysore that a Government school in Kathwadipura has been closed in the wake of water being released from Kabini and added that steps had been taken to evacuate people to safer places.

He also said that he was in constant touch with higher officials on initiating preventive actions to confront the problem of floods. Meanwhile, thousands of visitors are flocking the town to have look at the picturesque view of river in spate.

A team of officials comprising Circle inspector C.S. Raghu, Tahsildar Arul Kumar, Town Municipal chief officer D. Ramesh visited flood affected areas as a precautionary measure to avert any untoward incident.
