Following the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) granting stay to the government order appointing Dr. M.R. Ravi as Commissioner of Mysore City Corporation (MCC), P.G. Ramesh, who was the earlier Commissioner, is all set to assume charge of the post again.

As per the KAT order, Dr. Ravi will go back to his previous post as Additional DC of Belgaum.

Dr. Ravi, who took over as the MCC Commissioner in June 2012, was transferred in Feb. 2013 in the wake of MCC elections and P.G. Ramesh was posted in his place.

But the State Government, in its Sept. 2 order, appointed Dr. Ravi again as the MCC Commissioner and subsequently Ramesh moved the KAT, seeking a stay on the order.

Ramesh, in his plea had contended that he was shunted out of the post even before completion of one year. Besides Dr. Ravi, though being a KAS officer, was not eligible for selection grade, while at the same time, he was Karnataka Municipal Administration Service (KMAS) and a selection grade officer and that he was more qualified than Dr. Ravi for holding the post.

KAT Chairman A.C. Kabbin, who heard the petition, upheld Ramesh’s contention and directed that Ramesh continue as the MCC Commissioner.

Ramesh, speaking to Star of Mysore, said he is expecting to get the order today and he will take over as the Mysore City Commissioner Commissioner by this evening.

With this, Dr. Ravi, who had returned as MCC Commissioner only on Sept. 3, has to hand over the charge after a mere eight days.
