Though the previous BJP Government had transferred the Khata of New Type Model (NTM) School on Narayana Shastri road in city to Ramakrishna Mission for construction of Vivekananda Memorial, the Education Department has not handed over the same to the Mission and the school continues to remain in Government control as no budgetary sanctions have been made for construction of a memorial in the budget for the year 2013-14, said District Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad here yesterday.

The Minister, who was on an inspection of the M.G. Road vegetable market, was answering queries of the members of Kannada Kriya Samithi S.R.Sudarshan, Samskrithi Subramanya and Journalist Rajashekar Koti regarding the Government’s stand on the issue of transferring the school to Ramakrishna Mission.

Stating that it was premature to say that the school would not be handed over to the Mission as it would create legal problems, Sreenivasa Prasad said that the Government had sought opinion from the Advocate-General and a final decision would be taken at the Cabinet meeting.

He further clarified that the Government was committed to ensure development of Kannada Schools.
