The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysore and McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, signed an agreement on academic co-operation concerning the development of international academic linkages at NIE premises here yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. C. Rajashekara Murthy, Scientist-Emeritus, Environment Canada and Emeritus Professor at McMaster University, said that McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering and NIE desire to collaborate and strengthen academic cooperation based on the principles of mutual benefits.
"The objective of the cooperation agreement between the NIE and McMaster University is to define the general conditions related to scientific research and academic cooperation," Prof. Rajashekara Murthy said.
The activities concerning with this agreement can be broadly grouped under academic programmes and research activities, which may include faculty and student exchange, conduct conferences, workshops, symposia and seminars on science & engineering, topics of mutual interest, to initiate institutional development of binationally supervised doctoral theses starting with arrangements to facilitate the joint scientific and administrative supervision of doctoral theses and publicise the opportunity to receive advanced training for graduate students at NIE or at McMaster University.
S.K. Lakshminarayana, Chairman, NIE-Centre for International Programs and Hon. Treasurer, NIE-Managing Committee (MC), said that the initial focus of the agreement will be on the emerging technology areas like Water Research, Nanotechnology and Automotive Technology.
S.R Subba Rao, President, NIE-MC, presided over the event.
Others present in the event were M. Sreepada Rao, Vice-President, NIE-MC, S.L. Ramachandra, Hon Secretary, NIE-MC and Dr. G.L. Shekar, Principal, NIE.
