Mysore, Mar. 1 (SH)- National Science Day (Feb. 28 every year) was observed under the joint auspices of Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Mysore Science Centre and Somani B.Ed., College in the College premises.
Science Day was an occasion every year not only to take stock of achievements of science but also to remind common people to transform their daily life based on scientific outlook, said Prof. R. Anantharamu, Convenor.
He called upon the student fraternity to emulate Sir C.V. Raman's sterling qualities of patriotism, dedication and self-confidence, apart from taking interest in pursuing basic science in order to build a strong nation.
Chief guest of the day Prof. Swarnamala Sirsi, Head of the Department of Physics, Yuvaraja's College, Mysore, speaking on the occasion said that science played an important role in the nation's progress. Those who pursue science should have concern for the society and its needs, she remarked. She called upon the students to cultivate the practice of asking questions and striving to find answers to them, in order to raise their enthusiasm for science.
President of Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology, Mysore Centre, Sreemathi Hariprasad presided. Principal Prof. Mallikarjuna Shastri was present. Sridhar welcomed, Bhavani Shankar proposed vote of thanks and Rupa compered.
