A three-day national conference on ‘Assessment practices in schools’ organised by Regional Institute of Education (RIE) commenced at its premises in Manasagangotri here this morning.

About 300 delegates from the teaching fraternity are participating in the meet featuring lecture sessions and deliberations.

Inaugurating the programme, Mysore University Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa suggested that curriculum in schools be reviewed periodically based on principles of pedagogy. He further suggested that knowledge imparted in class rooms be good enough to connect to life outside. He wanted students to be groomed in creativity, innovation and problem- solving techniques with critical thinking.

He opined that education should be able to develop a student totally without just confining to text books.

RIE Principal D.G. Rao presided. Head, Department of Extension B.S. Upadhyaya, Associate Professor Dr. M.U. Paily, Dean of Instructions Dr. V.D. Bhat, RIE Mysore Association President Dr. G.R. Prakash and others were present.
