Come this Sunday and all the roads will lead to Mysore Race Course where Mysore Derby- 2013 (Grade 1), the Blue Riband of The Mysore racing calendar will be run for three-year-old Indian horses over a grueling distance of 2000 meters.

With the Poonawalla’s having backed out of sponsorship, the MRC authorities have failed to rope in a different sponsor for this year’s edition of this coveted event and the contest of skills and issue of lunch coupons to patrons, which used to be the feature of the day has been stopped for paucity of sponsors.

This year’s Derby which offers a prize money of Rs. 62 lakh to the winner has attracted a field of ten best three-year-old thoroughbreds with Charlatan, a property of liquor baron Vijay Mallya as a final entrant and other prominent contenders like Racing Ahead, coming from Hyderabad with the Deccan Challenge and Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy’s all-conquering Southern Emperor leading the Goldie Brown Brigade.

The authorities will inaugurate a totalizator’s outlet which consists of 20 windows from the derby day.
