As part of the Mysore Dasara preparations, Mysore City Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem and his sub-ordinate officers conducted an inspection of the Torchlight Parade Ground in Bannimantap here this morning.

The Police officers mapped the ground and its surrounding areas, marking out spots for barricading, parking, seating arrangements and other amenities.

It was decided not to allow parking of vehicles on the eastern side of the ground towards St. Philomena’s College and instead, use the space for providing the much-needed green room behind the dais where cultural progammes are performed.

For parking, it was decided to earmark the southern side of the parade ground, near St. Joseph’s Hospital and along the roads in that area.

It was brought to the notice of the Commissioner that the performers of tableaux and members of the numerous cultural troupes participating in the Jumboo Savari gather at the entrance of the parade ground, resulting in arguments and clashes with the genuine pass-holders. Hence, it was decided not to allow the artistes who do not possess passes into the parade ground, but to allow them to wait in the KSRTC ground nearby. In view of the barricading to be installed in advance for the Torchlight Parade, it was decided to urge the District Administration to call for tenders immediately and award contract at least a month in advance.

DCPs A.N. Rajanna and Prabhashankar, ACPs Jagadeesh and Angadi were present.
