MLA Vasu inaugurated the upgraded Swimming Pool, Dormitory and Basket Ball court of University of Mysore in city this morning. The swimming pool, located at Saraswathipuram, has been renovated and upgraded at a cost of Rs. 55 lakh and has been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities like water purification devices, high-end fibre filter plant, equipment for water chlorination and Robotic cleaner for cleaning the pool.
The dormitory at Maharaja’s College grounds complex besides the University gymnasium has been built at a cost of Rs. 35 lakh. It has four rooms and can accommodate 100 sports persons at a time. This facility will help the students of the University who come from different places to participate in tournaments.
The existing Basketball Court at the Oval grounds complex has been upgraded to a cement ground with Fiber and Acrelic board at a cost of Rs. 15 lakh. The University has utilised the fees collected from the international students to upgrade the basketball court. An exhibition match between DYSS and University of Mysore Basketball team was played on the occasion. Later, the Chinese students also played an exhibition match against the University team.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Vasu announced that Rs. 2 crore funds would be sanctioned for the upgradation of the Oval Grounds from the MLA fund which will also include funds from MUDA and MCC.
He added that Oval Grounds caters to the needs of the students from various parts of the city and it was important to upgrade the same to provide quality sports facilities for students to excel.
Vasu also said that he would request CM Siddharamaiah and District In-charge Minister V. Sreenivasa Prasad to allocate more funds for upgradation of sports facilities in city.
Stating that Rs. 30 crore had been allotted under the MLA fund, Vasu said that he had reserved the same for primary education, health and sports. “Majority of the Government Schools are in bad shape and needs funds for renovation. The constituency which I represent has more Government Schools and funds will be utilised for upgrading the facilities at schools,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa said that the sports facilities at the University of Mysore would be upgraded to international standards. He added the Gangothri Glades would be developed further in the future.
Mysore University Registrar Prof. C. Basavaraju, University Physical Education Department Director Dr. C. Krishna and others were present on the occasion.
