Bangalore, Apr. 7 (KVV&KMS)- The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) has hiked the price of milk by Rs. 3 per litre.

Addressing a press conference here today, KMF Chairman Somashekhara Reddy said that the price of milk, which is Rs. 16 per litre at present, has been hiked to Rs. 19.

The increase in price comes into force with effect from today midnight. Stating that the prices of milk products like curd, ghee etc., would be hiked substantially in due course of time, he said the Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa gave his approval for the hike yesterday.

He further said that out of the increased hike of Rs. 3, Rs. 2.50 will go to milk producers while 50 paise would be utilised for the expenditure being incurred by KMF.

Reddy said that milk producers would be covered under an insurance scheme with a sum assured of Rs. 3.50 lakh.
