Mysore, May 18 (KCU)- The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has begun the revival of the Gopuram Park besides Doddakere bund on Ooty Road here.
The park, with an impressive stone tower, was learnt to have been constructed during the days of Maharajas. The MCC in 2002 had got the place around the tower cleaned and developed at a cost of about Rs. 2 lakh.
Seating arrangements were made along with planting of ornamental plants and trees. A lush lawn too was grown with a good pathway laid with stone slabs.
However, only a few people used to frequent the park as the sewage water flowing in the adjoining drain used to emanate unbearable stench and mosquitoes frequented the place.
Now, Mayor Sandesh Swamy has come forward to revive the park with a new look and in that context, he inspected the place yesterday. He was accompanied by JNNURM Superintending Engineer Suresh Babu, Junior Engineer Farooq, Health Inspector Puttaswamy, Javed Ahmed, Corporators Jayashankar Swamy, Anwar Baig, Mahadevappa and R. Sunanda Kumar.
Sandesh initiated the removal of shrubs grown at the place. He assured to get the sewage water flowing beside the park diverted and modernise the park with good lighting system.
