In the backdrop of the State Government announcing the reservation criteria for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Mysore City Corporation, the Regional Commissioner has announced that the Mayoral polls would be held on Sept. 5 at 11.30 am at the Mysore City Corporation auditorium.
A decision in that context was taken at a meeting held at the Regional Commissioner’s office here yesterday.
The Mayoral polls would be conducted by the Regional Commissioner with the elected Corporators and legislators expressing support to a candidate by raising their hands during the polling process.
With the Congress rejoicing over the Council and Lok Sabha bypoll results, they would strive to grab power at the local bodies too. However, the alleged strategic alliance between JD(S) and BJP may possibly thwart the winning-spree of Congress.
If the JD(S) and BJP alliance came to power at MCC, the possible contenders for the post of Mayor would be Rajeshwari, Haseena Taj, Anusuya and Indramma while for Deputy Mayor, the aspirants would be Shailendra and Ramu, all from JD (S) with no one for the race from BJP. However if the Mayor’s post is offered to BJP, the opportunity may come to Mahadevamma or Vanitha Prasanna.
