Mysore, July 15 (KCU&KK)- Mayor Sandesh Swamy has announced that machine cleaning of roads and footpaths in important extensions of the city would commence soon.

Participating in a Meet-the-Press programme organised by Mysore District Journalist Association (MDJA) at Pathrakarthara Bhavan here today, Sandesh Swamy disclosed that the cleaning machine to be provided by an outsourced agency is able to sweep 3 kms an hour at working speed which will be utilised from 9 pm to 9 am daily.

Drinking water

Referring to the drinking water distribution in city, Sandesh Swamy said that JUSCO would commission, on an experimental basis, 24x7 water supply in five selected wards of the city soon.

"All the overhead tanks under the proposal would be commissioned gradually to ensure good pressure in supply of water. Apprehensions on the pace of JNNURM projects is unwarranted as the proposed works are proceeding at the set time duration," said Swamy.

Greenery

The Mayor announced that the greenery of city would be further improved by planting 60,000 saplings at selected places, which will not necessitate any felling on a later date.

"The widening proposal of Lalitha Mahal Road would be considered after weighing the pros and cons regarding the felling of trees," he added.

When reporters questioned about the cellars in business establishment not being used for parking. Mayor opined that the issue was long-standing and deep-rooted which should be addressed methodically.

In general Mayor observed that 80 per cent of Corporation Officers were just confined to office work and never ventured to the field to analyse any problem which has to be modified.
