Mysore, Sept. 24 (KCU&RK)- A four-day training workshop for Super-50 Police, a batch of specially chosen Police personnel from various Police Stations in the City, began this morning at the premises of VV Puram Traffic Police Station here.

The training was being imparted by DCP Rajendra Prasad.

It may be recalled that the Super 50 Police are a batch of knowledgeable cops with good communication skills in English, Kannada and Hindi. They have already been groomed in a preliminary training conducted by Alok Sharma, DIG, Uttarkhand, at a programme held recently in the City.

Sharma had been in charge of crowd control and related security measures during the Maha Kumbha Mela at Allahabad.

According to Police sources, the training involves grooming the Super cops in controlling huge surge of crowds during Dasara festival without using lathis etc.

They will also be trained to develop a people-friendly ambience as they will also have to guide tourists, particularly foreigners to locations like tourists spots, railway station, restaurants and generally help them in any way.

After the four-day training, the Super Cops will be deputed to Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Tumkur, Ramanagar and Bangalore districts to impart training to the Police contingents expected to arrive in city for Dasara. Once the process is through, the entire 2500 and odd Police force due to arrive for the occasion would have been groomed to handle the influx of tourists with a people-friendly attitude, according to Police.

The exercise being done for the first time in the State is expected to metamorphose the Police, shedding the usual notion that they are meant just for security.
