Mysore, July 23 (KK&DM)- The ultra-modern KSRTC bus stand at R.S. Naidu Nagar in city, built under JN-NURM project, will be thrown open to the public from tomorrow.

The new bus stand will be launched by Transport Minister R. Ashok at a function to be held at 11 am on July 24 which will be attended by District in-Charge Minister S. Suresh Kumar, opposition leader Siddharamaiah, MP H. Viswanath and others.

Transport Department Secretary M.K. Shankaralingegowda, Special Officer S.K. Lohia and Deputy Commissioner Harsha Gupta will be the special invitees. MLA Tanveer Sait will preside.

The new bus stand is built on a 1.29 acre area at a cost of Rs. 6 crores. The bus stand comprises 6 bus bays and 5 platforms, with a daily schedule of 83 operations on different routes. Besides, the bus stand has a parking lot that can accommodate 20 cars and 150 two-wheelers. Also, the bus stand has a lot of amenities and services to offer for the passengers with the establishment of ATM, Post Office and Bills Payment Centers. All these will be simultaneously launched on July 24.

Other bus stands being constructed across the city under the JNNURM project are in the final stage of completion.

KSRTC Divisional Controller M.N. Srinivas, speaking to SOM, said remodeling of KSRTC sub-urban bus stand taken up at a cost of Rs. 23.53 crores, construction of Kuvempunagar, Sathagalli and Yelwal bus stands will be completed by October. However, bus stand atop Chamundi Hill is yet to be taken up, he added.

Transport Minister Ashok will also launch the Mysore-Mandya Volvo bus service at KSRTC sub-urban bus stand on July 24. These buses will operate every 20 minutes and the one-way fare between Mandya and Mysore has been stipulated at Rs. 50, he explained.
