In the development works to be taken up in city under the second phase of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), emphasis will be laid on water projects for which a proposal of Rs. 815 crore was prepared three months ago.
This was disclosed by MCC officials during a review meeting chaired by MLA M.K. Somashekhar this morning, attended by MCC Commissioner, engineers of the KUWSB, JUSCO, Vani Vilas Water Works and top officials of various departments, apart from a few Corporators.
A proposal to seek a budgetary allocation of Rs. 669 crore for taking up development works in Mysore city was presented before the MLA who however, sought more details about the projects to be undertaken.
Out of the Rs. 815 crore outlay for second phase of JNNURM, a detailed project report of Rs. 405.50 crore has been prepared for remodeling the underground drainage of the entire city, Rs. 136 crore for remodeling of water supply, Rs. 102.10 crore for the Hongalli 2nd and 3rd stage water supply, bringing an additional 50 MLD of water from Melapura and other projects. For the JNNURM funds, the State government and MCC will contribute 10% each while the rest will be given by the Centre.
Inflated water bills
MLA Somashekar raised the issue of inflated water bills being issued to several residents after the new meters were installed by JUSCO. He said that several residents had complained about it, to which the Corporators too agreed. For example, a resident who used to pay about Rs. 300 per month as water charge, was now issued with a bill of Rs. 4000 per month. To this, the VVWW Engineer Subrahmanya said that an exclusive counter will be opened at the VVWW premises where the residents may produce the old and new bills which will be verified and the extra amount will be reimbursed.
Daily water supply
It was also announced that the water supply to city on alternate days, imposed months ago in view of the near-dry KRS reservoir, will be reverted to daily supply in two days’ time as the reservoir has been replenished now.
