Mysore, July 8- JK Tyre & Industries Ltd., Vikrant Tyre Plant had organised Adult Literacy Programme for the benefit of people in Doddamaragowdanahalli and Doddattihundi (Mysore Taluk) on July 3.

Inaugurating the function in Doddamaragowdanahalli, MLA M. Sathyanarayan appreciated the efforts of JK Tyre in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility. He requested that JK Tyres should also come forward to build Anganavadi centres in the Taluk in addition to Adult Literacy Education and other CSR initiatives. He said that if private companies meet 50% expenditure, Government would meet balance 50%.

Amitava Chaterjee, VP-Works, JK Tyre and Industries Ltd., said that the Company had initiated many programmes to serve the society— Adult Literacy, Children Career Counseling camps, programmes to improve environment, etc.

He said that so far they had made 3000 people literate and the Company has planned to cover more than 1000 beneficiaries under Adult Literacy programme in next four months.

A free medical camp was also held on the occasion.

Other dignitaries present in the inauguration ceremony were K. Marigowda, former Zilla Panchayat President, C. M. Chandrashekar, District Adult Officer, Senior Company Executives G. Rajagopalaiah, VP Mfg., S. Radhakrishnan, AVP-Mfg., M.P. Kanjolia, VP-Technical & office bearers of Employees Union.

JK Tyre & Industries Ltd. has set up permanent literacy centers in Central Jail, Mysore, where all the illiterate inmates are being taught Kannada. Even Bangladesh nationals are imparted training in writing and reading Kannada in Mysore Jail.

Other places where Adult Literacy Programmes have been held by JK Tyres are: Ekalavya Nagar, Palahalli, Soligara Colony, Gopalapura & Lingadevara Koppalu.
