Upset over the delay of the ongoing Under Ground Drainage (UGD) works in Hanumanthanagar, Bannimantap 3rd stage, hundreds of residents led by Karnataka State Handicapped Forum yesterday laid seige to the MCC demanding immediate completion of works.
The protestors alleged that the contractors were laying nine inch pipeline at certain points and six inch pipeline in other parts and that too at snail's pace which had resulted in creation of huge pits in front of houses making it difficult for people to come out of their houses.
The protestors presented a memorandum to MCC Commissioner Dr. M.R.Ravi who said that Rs. 20 lakh had been released for the works but expressed ignorance over the size of pipes being laid by the contractor. He also assured that the works would be expedited.
Earlier, the residents staged a protest against contractor Venkatesh who arrived at the extension to lay six inch pipes and cautioned him that he should use nine inch pipes. The protest was withdrawn following Dr. Ravi's assurance.
Forum State Convenor M.Prabhuswamy, Dileep Kumar, Afsal Pasha, Shabhuddin, Lakshmi Bai, Ramesh and others took part in the protest.
