The second rehearsal of firing of cannons was done yesterday at the premises of the Palace here to acclimatise the Dasara elephants and horses to the high decibel sound during the Jumbo Savari procession, in which cannons are fired as Gun Salute to the chief guest.

The firing was done 21 times from seven cannons each with an interval of five minutes.

Elephants Vijaya and Durgaparameshwari along with Gopalswamy got a bit scared and tried to run away but the mahouts managed to soothe the animals and bring them under control. The horses too panicked.

CAR ACP Siddaraju supervised the rehearsal. Police Commissioner Dr. M.A. Saleem, DCPs M.M. Mahadevaiah, Rajanna, Prabhashankar, ACP Chennaiah and others were present.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Veterinarian Dr. Nagaraj said that only the new entrant elephants got more scared during the firing of cannons but not Arjuna and the Kumki elephants who are used it since years.

He assured that all the elephants would get used to the cannon fire after a couple more of rehearsals.
