Inauguration on Oct. 8
Mysore, Oct. 3 (HT&BRS)- The Dasara cultural programmes will be launched on Oct. 8. The series of events will begin with a concert by renowned singer S.P. Balasubramanyam at 6.30 pm in the Mysore Palace premises.
This was disclosed by Shiva-kumar, Chairman, Dasara Cultural Sub-Committee, while addressing a press meet in Pathrakarthara Bhavan yesterday.
The nine-day cultural programmes from Oct. 8 to 16 will be held in Mysore Palace premises, Veene Seshanna Bhavan and Kalamandira, he said. Mysore District In-charge Minister S.A. Ramdas released the detailed list of the cultural programmes organised at the three venues.
Pt. Rajashekhar Mansoor will present Hindustani vocal on Oct. 9, at 6.30 pm. Danseuse Vidya Ravishankar will perform a dance programme at 8 pm.
Pt. Anup Jalota will present a Ghazal recital programme on Oct. 11, from 8 pm to 10 pm.
A jugalbandi between Kadri Gopalanath (on saxophone) and Praveen Godkindi (on flute) will be held on Oct. 14 at 8 pm.
Several other artistes will be performing in the series of programmes from Oct. 8 to 16.
A Committee has been constituted with Dr. Hanumanna Nayaka Dore, VC of Music Varsity, as the Chairman to select the artistes for this year's Dasara, the Minister disclosed.
In addition to new artistes, priority has been accorded to local artistes in the selection. Opportunity has been given to new talents to perform in this year's cultural programmes, he added.
Artistes from SAARC countries will also perform in the cultural programmes. In addition, artistes from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pra-desh, Pondicherry and Maharashtra will be taking part in cultural events, Ramdas said.
Detailed account of grants of funds to various Sub-Committees, particulars of expenditure and other information will be placed before the public after the events conclude, he disclosed.
