• Entrance Test on June 30 • Free education from 6th to 8th standard • 5 more schools in villages of Mysore Dist. • Kendriya Vidyalaya-type schools

Mysore, June 27 (DV)- We see people showing interest for English medium schools. At any cost, the children should get educated in English medium. This is the urge of most parents. As a complementary to this, the government itself has taken an initiative to start English medium schools called "Model Schools" throughout the State from this academic year.

These schools are being started under the "National Medium Education Abhiyan" of Central and State Governments.

Salient features

These schools are being start-ed with a view to compete with the private English medium schools. The stand of most of the people is that their children should get education in their mother- tongue. As against this, all are showing interest towards English medium schools. In this context, the govt. itself has initiated action to start English medium schools called "Model Schools."

In all, six "Model Schools" are being started from the current academic year at Mysore city, H.D. Kote, Hunsur, Nanjangud, T. Narasipur and K.R. Nagar.

These schools will work on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalaya. The necessary infrastructures like class rooms, laboratory, library, computer lab and playground have already been set up.

Speciality of schools: Free education is being imparted in these schools from 6th to 10th standard. For this purpose, services of graduates and post-graduate degree holders who are well trained in teaching will be utilised. To begin with, only 6th standard will be started from the academic year 2010-11. In all, 80 students will be admitted in each school on roster system. It is a special feature that only talented students will be admitted after entrance test.

Students for admission will be selected through entrance test. The questions, which are objective type, are based on subjects like English, Maths, Science, Social Studies of 5th standard and general knowledge. The question paper will be in English and Kannada. The entrance test will be held from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm on June 30. Results will be announced on July 7.

In case this scheme proves successful, the Department of Public Instruction has plans to open more such schools.
