Dr. Sathyanarayan Bhat yesterday took charge as the 27th Principal of the city’s Government Ayurveda Medical College, one of the oldest AYUSH institutions in the country.
Dr. Bhat, who has an MD in Ayurveda and Ph.D in Botany, is also a prolific writer and columnist. One of his articles has been included as a chapter in the 9th std. Kannada text book.
He has over 87 books to his credit, having researched on home medicine, herbal treatment etc. He was instrumental in enriching greenery at ISRO unit in Hassan and Chandrayaan, Byalalu and Bangalore campus.
He planted a sapling of a rare medicinal plant on the premises of the Ayurveda college and Charaka PG Centre on KRS Road before taking charge. He also has the experience of working to find a solution for Kyasanur monkey disease in 1980s with Ayurveda. Dr. Bhat hopes to tackle the dengue scare in the district with AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathya, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) treatment.
