The last rites of French national Anthony Sjeimer (69), who died in city after a road mishap recently, were performed by his friend Francis Bobo at Harishchandra Ghat, foot of Chamundi Hill here yesterday afternoon as per Hindu customs.
Anthony's friend Francis Bobo and Meenakshi (a resident of Vidyaranyapuram in city and wife of Francis), both officials in the Publicity Department of French Consulate and authorised to perform his last rites, performed the same and sent the ashes to his former wife in France as desired by her along with a death certificate from MCC.
Anthony was cremated at the gas crematorium in Harishchandra Ghat at 12.50 pm, according to KR Traffic Inspector M. Mahesh Kumar.
Staunch Shiva devotee
It is learnt, Anthony, a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva and Sai Baba, had always desired to die in Mysore and be cremated here itself. He also had a tattoo of Lord Shiva on his right hand and his rented house in Lakshmipuram had pictures of Hindu gods.
Meanwhile, Anthony's daughter Tara Sjeimer, who lives in Jakarta, Indonesia was also in touch with Francis to know about the last rites.
Rs. 1 lakh, passport recovered
It is said that Anthony had kept Rs. 1 lakh cash in a box in the kitchen and the same was recovered by French Consulate officers along with his passport, visa and other belongings, said KR Traffic Inspector M. Mahesh Kumar.
